This character came to me last night in a dream I had. It was pretty friggin sweet.
Her name is Melissa and she's a ringleader at a traveling circus. She looks to be about 15 or 14, but she isn't what she seems.
She's actually a supernatural being.
She can traverse time and space itself to find victims
Her circus is actually made up of people who she managed to capture who are now willless and soul less.
When she arrives at a town or city, she will tune in to the voices of the people in there. By listening to a person's voice, she can tell their entire life story. The closer the person is to singing, the more accurate the information and better she can understand. She'll then use this information to find a human who is particularly hopeless and try and get them to let her grant a wish for them.
She'll usually sing songs to them to better coax them, often about their life and how miserable it is. When she sings the song to them about their life, her voice will bring about images and visions around them reflecting what she's singing about.
A lot of people end up swayed by her and make a wish. But in exchange for the wish, she demands that they switch voices half and half. So she will take half of that persons voice and give them half of some from a pouch she has. She keeps the persons voices in a gem in a choker necklace around her neck. She has to offer them something in return because she is unable to just take some ones voice. She has to offer a service.
Often, the wish will be slightly awry, but it doesn't matter. The new half of the victims "voice" slowly takes over them, and consumes their soul, leaving them empty. When the soul is corrupted, the service Melissa performed is void and everything returns to the way it was. Melissa then goes and collects the now soulless body to do her bidding, giving it a role in her circus and then traveling to another time and place.
There are 2 ways to defeat Melissa.
The first is to record a song she sings to you, and play it backwards with her listening to it. This will drive her away from you and send her in to a frenzy, pretty much destroying her.
The second is to break the gem on her necklace. This will release the second half of a persons voice (she uses the voices to improve her own) and give the souls back to her circus members. This also takes away Melissa's power and makes it harder to recruit new members for her circus because her voice is no longer as appealing. So she has to go and collect new voices.
I think she's a really, REALLY neat character. And I'm really excited about her!
